DC5: Glide-symmetric metasurfaces for radar RF frontend
The Task 2.2 of the WP2 will be conducted with the doctoral project of the Doctoral Candidate 5, Mr. Ashray UGLE.
The project will be supervised by SU (Guido VALERIO and Massimiliano CASALETTI) , IMST (Simona BRUNI and Marta ARIAS CAMPOS) with a 2-month secondment at SINOWAVE (Zhongxia Simon HE) .
Objectives
- Design of ideal beam-forming networks (BFN) providing the necessary illumination on its output port to be connected to the radiating structure. Different topologies (such as Rotman, Butler) and technologies will be investigated.
- On the basis of the selected ideal structures, design of suitable GS isolating elements necessary for the practical implementation of the networks. Design of GS shifter/switcher to be integrated in the BFN. Different designs will be performed according to the band of interest: W and G.
- Integration of the designed BFNs with the active electronic components: chip mounting and transitions will be properly optimized.
- Each BFN will be re-optimized for best integration with both the active components and the radiating metasurface designed by Researcher 4.
- Prototype and measurement of the designed BFN.
Expected Results
- BFN topologies of interest, at least one for each operating bandwidth.
- GS band-gap optimized for the selected topologies and fabrication technologies.
- Design rules to optimize the efficiency of active components once connected with the BNFs
- Designed prototypes of GS BFN meeting market requirements.
